Cultivating our Roots

Both the root chakra and rose symbolize the importance of feeling grounded and establishing roots before blossoming into our fullest expression.

But roots don't grow on their own—they require consistent cultivation. Just like a rose needs proper soil, water and sunlight to thrive, our root chakra needs attention and nourishment. A rose deprived of nutrients won't flower as beautifully. Similarly, without establishing our energetic roots, we can't unfurl our highest potential.

Here are a few simple practices to strengthen your root chakra:

  • Spend time in nature. Whatever this means to you! Sitting, walking, laying down or riding a bike; you get the idea.

  • Establish routines and rituals. Our roots thrive through consistent daily practices—things like a morning meditation, eating grounding foods (raspberries and pomegranate seeds with granola), or journaling through out the day.

  • Yoga poses like Tree Pose, Warrior II and Standing Forward Fold engage the root chakra.

  • Use grounding crystals like hematite, garnet and black tourmaline can purify and energize the root. Place them on your lower back or hips during meditation.

  • …Speaking of meditation, consider a root chakra meditation or sound bath.

As we patiently tend the soil of our spirit, staying committed through all seasons, our roots grow deeper day by day. And eventually, we open to our own unique flower—our fully embodied, creative, confident self.

Keep cultivating your inner garden! The results will continue to blossom in beautiful ways.
